Point-in-time database recovery

7 min readUpdated August 2026

Restore lives on the add-on, not the app. Open the add-on → Backups. Restore always creates a new instance. The current database keeps running until you switch the app connection.

Step by step

01

Open Backups on the add-on

From the phase canvas, open the Postgres or MariaDB add-on and go to Backups. Enable backups if they are off. Backup schedules are UTC.

02

Choose a restore mode

Click Restore. Modes are Latest backup, Point in time, or Named backup. Point in time is available for Postgres and MariaDB, not Valkey.

03

Create a new instance

Give the restored copy a new instance name and click Create new instance. Smoke-test it, then use Switch connection on the app if you want production to point at the restore.

Valkey

Valkey backups are RDB snapshots. Do not expect a point-in-time slider there.
